Writer/director/actor Massimo Pagliaroli’s new play Inch of Your Life is episodic theatre, with new instalments coming on a regular basis. Each playlet can stand on its own, but there is also a good summary of the previous episodes in the program, plus a detailed list of characters.
At the heart of the serial are the three Catelli brothers, all losers in each his own way. The other six mostly Italian characters are their friends and lovers. There will also be added characters – for example, in Episode Two, we met the Catelli parents.
The dialogue is sharp, the acting is terrific, and the relationships capture the zeitgeist of our times, both the funny and the poignant.
I caught up with Episode Two towards the end of its run, and I’m hooked. Pagliaroli has come up with a great idea and he’s got a flare for sitcom.
Inch of Your Life (Episode Three) will run at The Bread and Circus in Kensington Market in October.
