The Classical music world is mourning the tragic death of renowned conductor Boris Brott.
Brott is one of the most internationally recognized Canadian conductors, with a career spanning decades, having performed on stages around the world and is known for his innovative methods of introducing classical music to new audiences.
He was the founder and artistic director of the National Academy Orchestra of Canada and the Brott Music Festival, both based in Hamilton.
The Festival confirmed the maestro’s death in a statement that reads: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of the one and only musical genius and Canadian artistic visionary Boris Brott.”
Brott was a member of the Order of Canada and was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by Tourism Hamilton in 2007.
