Anne-Sophie Mutter – the “undisputed queen of violin-playing” returns to Roy Thomson Hall with the Mutter Virtuosi, an exclusive ensemble of 14 hand-picked string players and scholarship recipients of her foundation.
The concert is February 7th, and marks the final appearance on her North American tour.
The four-time GRAMMY Award winner will perform Vivaldi’s beloved Four Seasons. Completing the program with a concerto by Joseph Bologne, the Chevalier de Saint-Georges, and Unsuk Chin’s Gran Cadenza, a virtuoso duo for violins.
Anne Sophie Mutter’s career has been celebrated for decades. An award winning violinist at just six years old in her home of Germany- by 13 she was working with famed maestro Herbert Von Karayan. Soon enough, she was in-performance with the Berlin Philharmonic, The English Chamber Orchestra and Daniel Barenboim.
By 1980, she had made it stateside with Zubin Mehta and the New York Philharmonic. A debut at Carnegie Hall in 1988, and a brilliant recording career that has included Mozart, Vivaldi and Beethoven, but also a nod to contemporary works.
More recently, her award winning various projects with cinema master John Williams have garnered massive streaming and sales. Her album Brahms Double Concerto/Clara Schumann Piano Trio, and Violin Concerto #2 with John Williams; both stars on The New Classical FM’s Classical Chartz over the last year.
She spoke with Mark Wigmore on The Oasis about her upcoming show. Listen below:
