It’s not official just yet, but TTC riders are being advised to brace for another fare increase.
If approved, this will be the 6th straight year fares have increased. In this latest proposal, the Transit Agency is looking at increasing the cost of tokens and presto trips by ten cents.
TTC Board member, Councillor John Campbell says the ten cent increase would generate about $27 million but, that won’t cover what’s expected to be a $100 million dollar shortfall.
As a result, Campbell says everything is under consideration including cutting discounts on student and senior’s fares.
The advocacy group TTC Riders is suggesting other means of funding the transit system including property tax increases and a parking tax.
The TTC board is expected to decide the matter at its meeting Monday.
